- The Gottlieb KOHLER who m. Martha Christina CORNEY cannot be the same Gottlieb KOHLER who m. Judith MOSHER. This is proven by the following three [Shankle] records:
"KOHLER","Gottlieb","M","1765-09-18",,"SJAL","Corney, Martha Christina",,
"KOHLER","Gottlieb","M","1772-12-29",,"DRL","Moser, Judith",,
"KOHLER","Wilhelmina Eliz","B","1786-01-06","1786-01-31","ZLL","Gottlieb & Martha Chris Corney",,"Geo Wm Holland & Cath Eliz"
Looking at it from a different angle, we know that Judith (MOSHER) KOHLER REDMOND d. 18 Mar 1791 and that she married David REDMOND on 7 Dec 1784. So her first husband, Gottlieb KOHLER, cannot be the man who married Martha Christina CORNEY in 1765 and is still married to Martha in 1786.
Planters & Pioneers has a Gottlieb KOHLER b. abt 1753, s/o Gottlieb and Maria Elizabeth, while the Palatine Project Passenger List for the Speedwell 1752 has a half-freight in the family of Gottlieb 1717 and Maria Elizabeth whom they identify Johann Gottlieb 2nd. Since said Gottlieb 2nd is a half-freight, he must be born 1748 or earlier.
The Gottlieb who m. Martha CORNEY in 1765 cannot be the man listed in Planters and Pioneers as he would be about age 12 in 1765, while "Gottlieb 2nd" must be at least 15 in 1765. And since Gottlieb 1717 does not appear to be the man who marries either Martha CORNEY or Judith MOSHER [he is listed as the h/o Maria Elizabeth when he dies in 1788], the h/o Judith MOSHER seems to be "Gottlieb 2nd".
So my best shot at what's happening is that, since there is no sign of a son named Gottlieb in the family of Heinrich KOHLER (who came on the Ann in 1750), there seem to be two sons named Gottlieb in the family of Gottlieb and Maria Elizabeth, who marry as above.
PS. I don't even want to think about who the Gottlieb KOHLER, widower, who m. Christina SALM in 1773, was. If I had to do it, I would guess Gottlieb 1717.
