- To date, no marriage record has been found for Richard and Hattie; however the 1901 Census lists her as his wife.
A Mrs. Richard HUBLEY dies in 1899 so it would appear that Richard and Hattie are probably married between 1899 - 1901. However, Charles W. HUBLEY, who is known to be born in 1897, gives his mother as Hattie. Since Harry Gordon HUBLEY gives his DOB as 21 Aug 1900 on his WW I enlistment papers, it would appear that 1900 is probably about right.
There is a question as to who is the mother of the three infants born to Richard HUBLEY 1906 - 1912 in Lunenburg County. The most likely choices are:
a. Hattie SPEIDEL, to whom he may or may not have been married; or
b. Bessie Wentzell, who seems to be living apart from her husband in the 1901 Census; or
c. Person(s) unknown
In the Brookside Cemetery records, these three infants are listed only as the children of R. HUBLEY. However, they are buried in the same plot as Richard and Bessie, whom he marries in 1914. But, assuming that we have the correct Bessie Wentzell, she would have been 50 yrs old in 1903, making it unlikely that she is the mother. Further, Hattie is also buried in the same plot with Richard, three infants, and Bessie. So, I believe the correct answer is Hattie which means that she probably dies about 1912. [Bob H]
