- Others have placed Joseph as the son of Johann Friedrich and Sarah Catharina SAWLER, but this is, I believe, a mistake as they were all staunch Anglicans and Joseph appears in the register of Chester Baptist when he marries. I cannot swear that Johann David is member of Chester Baptist, but his daughter Mary Ann is married there.
So who does Joseph belong to? If he does not belong to John Fred and Sarah, then he must belong either to John Henry, John David or Magdalena Margareta (unless someone knows of more children of John Henry 1745). He almost surely does not belong to John Henry since John Henry quickly takes himself to St. Margaret's Bay and in any event he has a son, John Jacob, b. 4 Jun 1815, and is an Anglican to boot. And Mary Margaretha's story is that she cannot have an illegitimate son in 1815 (unless she commits adultery), so that leaves John David.
On the other hand, it's curious that John David's other children are listed in the Chester Township book, but not Joseph, who I think would be the middle child. [Bob H]
