  • Notes
    • It is known that John Obet [Jack] SMITH, s/o Rebecca SMITH, was raised by John and Elizabeth (MARRIOTT) HUBLEY; in fact, John SMITH is the principal beneficiary of John HUBLEY's LWT. It is also believed [this info may come from an interview of John Obet SMITH in the 1950's] that he was taken in by Rebecca SMITH's mother's sister. There is only one known sister, actually a half-sister, of Rebecca's mother--Mary Catherine WHNYOT--who bore the name of Elizabeth, and she is Mary Susanna WHYNOT, d/o George Melchior and Jeanne Margarethe (BOUTILIER) WHYNOT. Mary Susanna did marry a HUBLEY, but he was john Jacob HUBLEY and they moved to NH before John SMITH was born. So, if the story is true, then the sister must be Elizabeth MARRIOTT and, if Elizabeth MARRIOTT is d/o Jean James and Mary Catherine (DAUPHINEE) MARRIOTT--which would fit the known ages of all parties involved, that also makes her the half sister of Mary Catherine WHYNOT, and all the puzzle pieces fit nicely together.

To add icing to this cake, it is known from two deeds executed by Jean Pierre MARRIOTT that his son John James, h/o Mary Catherine DAUPHINEE, has daughter named Elizabeth.
