Notes - The parents of this Edward HARNISH are not known for certain, but he certainly appears to be a St. Margaret's Bay Harnish, and he is certainly not one of the otherwise known HARNISH's bearing the name of John. Also, he is almost certainly not a son of Edward or Casper. So the choices are John George and John Jacob. Although there is nothing to prove that he does not belong to John Jacob, it would be a tight fit and, in any event, I believe the following evidence to be more compelling.
John George HARNISH marries Polly SLAUENWHITE in 1803 and we know from other records that there were eight children born before Mary Elizabeth. Next, their first recorded child (that I know of), Charlotte, appears in 1808. Given the time period and subsequent births, it appears far more likely that the baptismal records were lost (or that I cannot yet find them) for the period 1803-1808 than that there were no births during this period. Edward, h/o Maria Sims would explain one of those absent births.
He is clearly the Edward HARNISH who d. 1904, since he is living with a daughter before his death and his age in the 1901 Census is 95.
Therefore, pending unearthing of further evidence, he is placed with John George and Polly. [Bob H]
