- Eliza BAKER's Statement of Claim--Genealogical Proof is a document associated with the BAKER Fortune Hoax of the early 1900's. A very large number of BAKER descendants prepared these documents to substantiate their supposed relationship to a non-existent Jacob BAKER of Philiadelphia; their quality ranged from professional to hilarious, and I cannot say where Eliza BAKER's Statement fell within this quality spectrum. However, I can say that:
a. Edmund Langille's notes do have a Philip BAKER as a child of Caspar and Dorothea (HEISLER) BAKER.
b. This Philip was born 02 May 1825 according to the DRL register.
c. When Philip BAKER, known husband of Mary Elizabeth HARNISH dies at Indian Point, his age is given as 85 years, which matches exactly the DOB in the DRL register for Philip, s/o Caspar and Dorothy. Philip's occupation is given as Fisherman and his POB as given as Flat Island. So he is a Tancook BAKER.
d. There are no other BAKER's bearing the name Philip born around that time, on Tancook (or anywhere else), at least that I know of. [Bob H]
