Notes - Nellie was raised by her grandparents, Thomas and Sarah CRAIG, and is known to have been illegitimate. Her marriage record gives her parents as Thomas and Sarah, but her obituary notice names her mother as Margaret. It is known (from the 1881 Census) that Thomas and Sarah did have a daughter named Margaret, so it is possible that she was the biological mother.
Family legend has it that Nellie's mother died when Nellie was young and daughter Margaret disappears after 1891. So it seems not only possible but probable Margaret was Nellie's biological mother.
