• Notes

  It is not certain that Eliza belongs in this family. She cannot belong to Edward or Caspar, leaving John George and John Jacob. If she belong to John George and Polly, that leaves no room for the Elizabeth HARNISH who marries John MANSFIELD . So it appears that they do not both belong in the same family. If Eliza belongs to John George, she is a tight squeeze in the birth order, just as is Elizabeth, w/o John MANSFIELD, in the birth order of John Jacob. Markers often lie about ages and birth dates but, if Eliza's is accurate, she would be a near impossibly tight squeeze in John George's birth order. Plus, there is an unexplained gap in John Jacob's birth order from 1806-1814. So, pending discovery of further evidence, she is placed with John Jacob. Various documents put her date of birth as 1811, 1817, and 1819. Her marker, for example, states that she died at age 93. However, if that were true, her two youngest children would have been born when she was in her fifties. The most contemporary source that we have for her DOB is the 1871 Census, never noted for its accuracy, which places her birth in 1817.
