- Little is known of this child. He appears only in the 1881 Census, and there he is living with Leonard and Anna Maria FRANCK, parents of Absalom FRANCK who married Catherine Lavinia SLAUENWHITE. Also living in that household is a Catherine FRANCK, whose age is given as 10, and a Sarah SLAUENWHITE, age 23. While Catherine FRANCK, age 10, is probably the daughter of Absalom and Catherine Lavinia (Slauenwhite) FRANCK, Sarah and Absalom, age 6 mos. pose a more difficult problem.
It seems likely that Sarah is one of two people. The first is Sarah Diane, sister of Catherine Lavinia SLAUENWHITE, and the second is Sarah Cassandra, daughter of Franz and Angeline (Franck) SLAUNEWHITE. From all the available circumstantial evidence, it would appear that Angeline FRANCK, mother of Sarah Cassandra, was the sister of Absalom FRANCK, which would make Sarah Cassandra the granddaughter of Leonard and Anna Maria FRANC and given this, it is likely to me that she would have been living with them than would Sarah Diane, an in-law. Also, Sarah Cassandra is more nearly 23, the age of the Sarah in the 1881 Census, that is Sarah Diane. Finally, nothing more is ever heard of Sarah Diane, while Sarah Cassandra is known to have survived and later married. So it seems most likely that the lady in question is Sarah Cassandra.
As to Absalom, age 6 months, the most likely explanation is that he is the son of Sarah, possibly illegitimate. [Bob H]
