  At least one genealogy lists sons Loren, b. 10 Dec 1872, of whom there is no further record, and James L. b. 10 Aug 1875. However, a birth on 10 Dec 1872 would conflict with the birth of daughter Etta on 26 Jul 1873. Further, the 1881 Census lists a son named Loren, b. 1875, but no son James; and when James L. HATT marries Mary MILLER, his name is recorded as "Lorein" HATT. Finally, his name in the 1991 Census is James Loren HATT. So I believe that James and Loren are the same person.
