  • Notes  Married:
    • The NS marriage register records a marriage affidavit for Edward A. TANNER and Ada A. NOWE which state sonly that he is Edward A. TANNER , age 33, fisherman of Middle South, and that she is Ada NOWE, Widow of full age, of Lunenburg. Since there was no marriage return slip, only an affidavit, it would appear that this was a common-law marriage. Then, in Oct 1901, someone who would appear to be this same Edward A. TANNER formally marries Bessie May NOWE, and when Ada dies in 1915, her death record states that she is single. So it would appear that the parties who submitted the marriage affidavit in 1900 quickly changed their minds and walked away..
