Remigius Ellswood SLAUENWHITE

-
Name Remigius Ellswood SLAUENWHITE Nickname Meadie Birth 29 May 1885 Terence Bay, Halifax, NS [1, 2, 3]
Gender Male Death 15 Oct 1906 Glace Bay, Cape Breton, NS [4]
Cause: Coal mine accident - On 16 Oct 1906, the following obit appeared in the Halifax Evening Mail (page 12):
“GLACE BAY, October 15 - Meda SLONWHITE, a driver in the Hub collieries, was instantly killed today in the Hub colliery by a fall of stone. SLONWHITE, it is presumed, whipped up his horse when a box of coal got off the track, and the box striking a prop dislodged a boom, letting down a mass of stone upon him from the roof. SLONWHITE was 19 years of age. His parents formerly came from Halifax, but are now residing at Marble Mountain.”
Since George and Sarah SLAUNWHITE and family were the only SLAUNWHITE's (by any spelling) to ever reside at Marble Mountain, Meda can be identified as their son. And, a handwritten document held by the their descendants lists their children in this order: Sanford, Inglis, Rowena, Meadie, Nelson, Pius . . . ; thus it seems certain that the Meda in the obit is son Remigius Ellswood.
