    • It is known that he participated in the battle of Gettysburg. Also, for his “Gallant and Meritorious Conduct” during the siege of Fort Sumter in 1863, he was later awarded the Gilmore Medal of Honor, also known as the Fort Sumter medal. The medal is dated 23 Aug 1863 (the last day of the Union siege) and is held by his gg-grandson, Timothy Paul Horton.

      In May 1897, Nellie M. Horton applied for, and was subsequently granted, a (Civil War Veteran's) Widow's Pension.
