Notes |
- The evidence that Jacob BOUTILIER belongs in this family is mainly circumstantial and is as follows:
a. Elizabeth is noted as the first child of Jacob and Mary in the SPAH register, and Samuel Frederick as the fourth. So there would appear to have been a child who fills the gap between Elizabeth and George Henry.
b. George Henry is buried “from his brother's residence, Coal Harbour Road in time to meet the 3' o'clock boat for Halifax” [Halifax Morning Herald, 05 Jul 1880--cited by Brenda Maruca]. Since this does not appear to be one of the known brothers or half-brothers, it would appear to be the unknown child whose existence is noted above.
c. Certain deeds cited by Brenda Maruca place Jacob on the North West Arm (which is where Mary Ann (CORNELIUS) BOUTILIER and her son George Henry are known to have lived) before he and his wife move to the Dartmouth area.
d. Jacob is buried Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Dartmouth, as is George Henry.
e. Although Jacob's DOB is in question, the 1901 Census gives it as 31 Dec 1831, which would fill the gap in the family birth order.
So, pending the unearthing of more concrete evidence, he is placed with this family. [Bob H]
