  Notes	The obituary notice for George Ross HUBLEY give his dates of birth and death, lists his parents as Almon HUBLEY and Lavinia HAWES, and then lists a string of brothers and sisters. However, while he was born in Dec 1916, his father marries Florence McKILLOP in 1919; also, in 1919, two girls from the same area named Lavinia HAWES are married. Also, when George ROSS HUBLEY is baptized at Holy Trinity Anglican, Tangier, the baptismal entry [transcribed by Barry Hubley] states: “George Ross, baptised Apr 3 1917, born Dec 1 1916, Spry Bay , son of Al___ [difficult to read] Hubley, Soldier and Lavinia Hawes, Servant.” And finally, there is no know civil or church marriage record for Almon HUBLEY and Lavinia HAWES. So it would appear that they were single at the time of George Ross HUBLEY's birth. [Bob H]

• Notes

  In the 1901 Census, she is living in the household of George and Elizabeth (HARNISH) CONNOR and is listed as May HAWES with a note that she is the daughter of said George; however, this appears to be inaccurate. In the 1911 Census, she is again living in their household but is listed as Vinnie CONNOR, adopted daughter. At marriage in 1919, she gives her parents as Jasper and M. Ann HAWES, and this would seem to be William Gasper and Mary Ann (CONNOR) HAWES. which would make Lavinia the niece of George CONNOR. Further, her father, Gasper remarries--to Annie Florence JOSEY on 3 Dec 1901--at which time he is a widower. wife Mary Ann having died in 1899. And Mary Ann's death would explain why Lavinia is taken in by her uncle.
