A broken back, suffered in a wild gale which swept part of her home away pinning her beneath it several months ago, cost the life of Mrs. Gordon Fralick, 42-year-old Hackett's Cove woman, in Victoria General hospital Saturday. Mrs. Fralick had been in hospital for almost seven months fighting for her life, but the long struggle proved to be too great. The injury was received on Sunday, September 17, of last year, when the worst storm in the history of [the] district ripped through the Hackett's Cove community, tearing down buildings like paper boxes and CAUSing several persons to be more or less seriously injured. A gale which brought with it hailstones the size of eggs CAUSed most of the damage. Mrs. Fralick was said to have been taking shelter in the lee of her home when the fierciest [sic] gusts of the gale struck. Her husband was able to reach the barn and safety, but part of the second storey of the house was sheared off by the wind and timbers and masonry fell on Mrs. Fralick. When Mr. Fralick returned to the house he found his wife pinned beneath the wreckage. She was removed to hospital with other injured and had been there ever since. The funeral will be held from Cruikshank's Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon with service in St. Peter's Anglican church, Hackett's Cove, at two o'clock. Burial will be at Hackett's Cove.
