Notes - In 1911, Helen M. SLAUENWHITE, age 16, born Terence Bay d/o George and Sarah, Marries Edmund MOUNTAIN in Halifax. The only other thing we know about her is that she is Catholic. We also know that Helen and Edmund's marriage record states that Edmund was born Halifax; however, in the 1901 Census, his family reside a Main a Dieu, Cape Breton, and his death certificate lists his POB as Cape Breton.
There are two couples named George and Sarah SLAUENWHITE who are in their child-bearing years in 1895 and are associated with Terence Bay--George Henry and Sarah Jane (SLAUNWHITE) SLAUNWHITE, and George Nelson and Sarah Jane (JOLLIMORE) SLAUENWHITE. Both are Catholic and are living at or near Terence Bay in 1895. However, while George Henry remains at Terence Bay, George Nelson shortly moves to Marble Mountain, Inverness County.
The circumstantial evidence is that first, in 1901, the family of George Henry SLAUNWHITE can be found in the Census [George Nelson's cannot] and there is nobody who even vaguely resembles Helen in this family. Second, Helen's name is spelled “SLAUENWHITE” in the marriage record and this is the spelling used by George Nelson's family. And third, her husband lives on Cape Breton Island, as does the family of George Nelson after about 1901.
So I believe that Helen is either mistakenly named SLAUENWHITE in her marriage record, or is the d/o George Nelson SLAUENWHITE, probably the latter. [Bob H]
