- The obituary Notice for Charles Robert Hubley states that he has two daughters--Mrs. Helena SLAUENWHITE of CT, and Mrs. Effie CORKUM of Bridgewater. However, I believe that they are probably Queen Elma [I suspect the Queen part was a joke on the census taker] and Effie May, the daughters of Zachariah and Emma Jane (Publicover) HUBLEY. Here is why:
a. We know from the 1930 Census of CT that Helena HUBLEY, wife of Maurice Stanley SLAUENWHITE, is b. 1899; Queen Elma is b. 1899.
b. In the 1911 Census of Lunenburg County [New Dublin, family #143], we see that Charles and his wife (called Louise) are childless!
c. The obit for Charles Henry names his daughter Effie as Effie CORKUM of Bridgewater, NS; Effie HUBLEY, d/o Zachariah and Emma, m. Russell Carmond CORKUM and lives/dies in Bridgewater.
d. Queen Elma is the only HUBLEY I can find in any NS Census who could possibly be Helena, wife of Maurice SLAUENWHITE.
e. There is only one Effie HUBLEY in the 1911 Census of who is under 22 yrs of age.
What is needed to solidify this belief is a death date for Emma Jane (Publicover) HUBLEY. [Bob H]
