• Notes

  The headstone inscription appears to read “Catherine, wife of E. Schlagenweit”. Elias Schlagenweit was born 1836 and neither of his wives was named Catherine, so it is unlikely that this was his wife. However, his mother, who was named Catherine, is known [from the 1850 Census] to have been born abt 1812. Therefore, the conclusion seems inescapable, that this is the headstone of his mother.
