- The Alexander HUBLEY who marries “Elizabeth” DAUPHINEE must meet the following criteria:
a. He must be born after 1788 [he calls himself Alexander the Younger, farmer of SMB, in his LWT]
b. He must be either single or widowed on 3 Jan 1830 [when he marries]
c. He must marry an Elizabeth DAUPHINEE in 1830 and reside with her at Dauphiney's Point from about 1830 to 1836. [He and Elizabeth have three children who are born and baptised there, and from their baptismal records, he is living on his wife's father's original property]
d. He must die at SMB in Oct 1836 [when his will is written and probated]
e. He must have a brother named John [who is named as one of his two executors].
It would appear that he is none of the “known” Alexander HUBLEY's since every other Alexander can apparently be ruled out.
Now it is known that this Alexander and his wife, Susannah DAUPHINEE, had a daughter named Elizabeth, b. 1830, and there is an 1850 NS marriage bond for the marriage of an otherwise unidentified Elizabeth HUBLEY to a Henry MEISNER. The witness to this marriage bond is a Peter HUBLEY and there is only one known Peter HUBLEY this could possibly be--Peter, s/o Johannes and Mary Elizabeth (BOUTILIER) HUBLEY. Since Elizabeth cannot be his daughter or sister, it seems likely that she is his niece.
Next, this Peter HUBLEY has a brother named John [as in John HUBLEY executor of the will of Alexander d. 1836]. And also, Johannes HUBLEY has no known sons named Alexander, which seems odd.
Additionally, the SPAH register names Isaac and Peter HUBLEY as the eighth and ninth children of John and Susannah, meaning that [unless the good clergy got two entries in a row wrong] there is an otherwise unknown child who precedes them in the birth order.
Finally, in the death notice for Mary Elizabeth (BOUTILIER) HUBLEY, mother of Peter and John, is the fact that “her grandson George in his 15th year was drowned the following Tuesday” (after her death). Although he would be in his 14th year in Dec 1847 when he dies, this would appear to be George HUBLEY b. 1834, son of Alexander and Susannah, as there do not seem to be any other George's who fit the description!
Given all of the above, my best guess is that Alexander, husband of Susannah, is the son of Johannes and Mary Elizabeth (Boutilier) HUBLEY, b. abt. 1810. It would indeed be ironic if he were actually born 1809, proving the correctness of the conventional wisdom [in a perverse sort of way, since it is the wrong person] about Alexander 1809 being the husband of Susannah!
