Notes - Duncan is listed in the 1871 Census of Sheet Harbour, as is Agnes LOGAN, as though he is a child of David and Elizabeth Logan. But Elizabeth is too old to be his mother, and at his marriage, he gives his mother as Agnes. So it looks to me that Agnes is either a widow in 1871 or the mother of illegitimate son Duncan. [Bob H] The age at death given in her death register entry is 83 years. That appears to be a mistranscription by the records clerk, but the problem is that every record for Agnes gives a completely different DOB from 1833 to 1850. If her death certificate entry is discounted, then the average of the other five entries is 1843, which is her 1881 Census entry.
There is also the problem of whether there were one or two Agnes LOGANs. We know that Agnes, age 40, Spinster, d/o David and Elizabeth (HURD) LOGAN marries John William HARNISH in 1879. But we also know that was an Agnes, wife of David LOGAN, who is the mother of Duncan Robert LOGAN, b. abt 1862. However, this Agnes seems to appear in the household of David and Elizabeth (HURD) LOGAN in 1871. Moreover, in succeeding years, she is seen living next door to at least two of the sons of David and Elizabeth. And finally, there is only one Agnes HARNISH from 1881 through 1911, and no Agnes LOGAN's.
So my best guess is that there was only one Agnes LOGAN, and that she was the widow of David LOGAN, not a spinster, when she marries John William HARNISH. [Bob H]
