Notes - Served in the US Navy from Jun 2, 1858 to Mar 24, 1864 as a seaman and Master's Mate. 1861 Re-enlistment papers describe him as:

In addition to training vessels, he was assigned to the frigate USS Sabine (1858-1861), and during the Civil War, he was assigned to the USS Lockwood and to the gunboat USS Louisiana (purposely blown up in Dec 1864). He is described in the 1890 Special Census of Civil War Veterans as “left leg wounded, badly disabled”, and his pension record lists him as missing a finger due to an accident on the USS Sabine.
