• Notes

  Apparently, Kitty BOUTILIER lived in the home of Jacob and Charlotte (UMLAH) JOHNSON, possibly as a maid, when she had Mary, James, and Eliza. At some point Jacob acknowledged that these children were his and, after Charlotte's death, he married Kitty . So James, Mary, and Eliza are always seen with the JOHNSON surname. Kitty also has George Winter before marrying Jacob; however, although he subsequently lives in Jacob's household, he is never acknowledged by, and so does not appear to be, the biological child of Jacob. [Source: Brenda Maruca] Finally, William BOUTILIER, who appears as Kitty's illegitimate son in the SPFV records, appears to have had a completely different father (who is not named in the baptismal record).
