Notes - Douglas McDougall states that his great-grandmother, Alice Slaunwhite, was b. abt 1860 at Terence Bay. Given that fact, every other SLAUENWHITE (by whatever spelling) who is known to have born the name “Alice” appears to be ruled out, save two. There was a Alice M., b. 1861 at Terence Bay, and also there was a Mary Alice SLAUNWHITE b. abt 1860 at the North West Arm. But given that the “right” Alice was born at Terence Bay POB, she is probably ruled out. The Census is not helpful as both Alice M. and Margaret Alice appear in the 1881 Census but not in the 1891, consistent with a mid-1880s marriage. However, both Charles MUMMERY and his family are known to be Anglican, which makes the “right” Alice probably Anglican as well. Since Alice M. was Catholic while Margaret Alice was Anglican, it appears most likely that the Alice SLAUNWHITE who marries Charles MUMMERY was Margaret Alice. [Bob H]
