Notes - The ancestry of George WHITMAN is not known. However, it is clear that he is not a descendant of John or Zachariah WHITMAN of Holt,Norfolk, England and Weymouth, MA. Since he was born in PA, he might be a German WITTMAN, but this is purely specualtion.
He appears to have arrived in Halifax in 1783 with a contingent of Loyalist soldiers of the Duke of Cumberland Regiment. (See Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867, Vol I, p. 511) [Bob H]
