• Notes

  What is known for certain is this. First, a John James HARNISH marries a Sarah BOUTILIER (which one is an open question). Second, this Susannah BOUTILIER dies in May 1845. Third, in Aug 1846, a James HARNISH, widower, marries a Susan WEINACHT, widow. Fourth, there is no further record of this couple. Fifth, in 1847, James Henry HARNISH and a Susannah FREDERICKS (aka Susannah ADAMS), begin to have children; the first child is baptized SPFV, but no wedding for the couple at SPFV (or anywhere else has ever been found. Now either John James and James Henry are two different people or they are the same person and, in 1846, Susannah FREDERICKS is the Widow WEINACHT. I think the latter is the case for the following reasons. First, John James, husband of Sarah BOUTILIER and Susan WEINACHT is a “contrived” person who exists only beCAUSe we have no other way to explain who their husband is, if he isn't James Henry. But what good reason says he isn't James Henry? Occam's Razor says that John James shouldn't exist. Second, Susannah FREDERICK's first child by James Henry (that we know of) is Eliza Jane, b. 14 Mar 1847 [SPFV]. Given the frequent number of “premature” births in that time frame, this is just about a perfect fit. Third, as found in Joe Whitby's abstracts of the SPFV register, one of the SPFV parish register entries names James Henry as John James. Fourth, when daughter Maria Sophia HARNISH marries John David BOUTILIER, she gives her father's names as James H. Fifth, as also found in Joe Whitby's abstracts of the SPFV register, Susannah FREDRICKS' name changes from Sarah to Susan in 1847. But if John James and James Henry are the same person, and Susan ADAMS/FREDERICKS and Susan WEINACHT are the same person, this would neatly explain that change.
