  Son Elkanah SMELTZER, age 1, appears in the family of George William and Keziah SMELTZER in the 1871 Census. His marker at Bayview Cemetery gives his DOB as 6 Jan 1870 and names him J. Elkanah, and he appears in the 1881 Census as son James, age 10. Now in the NS civil birth register, a son named James Alfred is born 6 Feb 1970, but there is no record of a son named Elkanah; moreover, a son born 6 Jan 1870 would be impossible. So Elkanah and James Alfred are almost certainly the same person. Son Elkanah SMELTZER, age 1, appears in the family of George William and Keziah SMELTZER in the 1871 Census.
