Notes - The is no proof that this Mary Eliza SLAUENWHITE is the “Mary L.” shown as his wife in the 1871 and 1881 censuses, and there are several other unresolved questions about this couple as well (e.g., where were they in 1871). The chief clue is the presence of Elizabeth LITTLE as a lodger in their home in 1881 and 1891. This Elizabeth LITTLE is probably Mary Elizabeth SLAUENWHITE, widow of David KIRK and George LITTLE, who is the aunt of this Mary Eliza. [Bob H/Iris Shea]
Also, the date of her death is a puzzle, as there is no known death or burial record, as well as no known cemetery inscription to ID her. However, in the Terence Bay Deaths manuscript, there is an entry for a Mrs. John HARRIE who d. 23 Mar 1898. Mary Eliza HARRIE/SLAUNWHITE seems to appear in the 1891 but not the 1901 Census and, through a process of elimination, is the only person who seems to fit the person in the the TBD manuscript entry.
It seems improbable that, if they were married in 1855, they had only two children, born about 1870. But no others have shown up in any other records. [Bob H]
