  His age at death in 1927 is given as 78, which would place his birth in 1849. However, in the 1901 Census his year of birth is given as 1857, and in the 1911, it is given as 1862! Since his mother is believed to have been abt. 1808, neither of the latter dates seem credible. Now it is known that a number of the children of John and Charlotte GEBHARD were baptised within six months of birth, and Thomas was bb. on 27 Jun 1852. So an 1852 year of birth appears to be the most likely.
