  • Notes
    • The entry in the marriage register gives only the couple names, his age--21, and the Bridgewater location. Although it is entered between marriages occurring on 23 and 25 Jun 1907, no date is given, and there is an annotation stating “Affidavit only”. Also, it is known that both the parties were actually age 18.

Now on his 1929 marriage return slip, Henry Alexander HUBLEY states that his mother is Edna HUBLEY, that his father is not known, and that he was adopted by his grandfather, Cyrus HUBLEY. So it would appear that an affidavit was signed giving permission for an underage couple to marry, but that the marriage never actually occurred. Given the evidence provided by the affidavit that one was clearly contemplated by at least one set of parents, it would appear to have been a “shotgun” marriage and thus the father of Henry would not appear to be in question.
