- There is a Dutch Reformed Church, Lunenburg baptismal record for a Joshua HUBLEY, b. 31 Dec 189, s/o Jacob and Ann Caroline HUBLEY, and there isi no furthe record fo either Johua or Ann Caroline. My suspicsion is that they are actually people we already know of.
First, notice that Joshua is born 31 Dec 1819, the exact same day as Casper HUBLEY, s/o John Jacob 1794 and Anna Barbara (HIRTLE) HUBLEY, and that Joshua is baptised at DRL where other children of John Jacob 1794 born at that time are baptised.
Then notice that John Jacob 1798 (who has been suggested by at least one other researcher as the father of Joshua) is known to marry Mary Susanna Elizabeth WEINACHT, who is a St. Margaret's Bay girl. and they take up residence in the Spry Bay area; this suggests that John Jacob 1798 moved to Halifax Count at a tender age. So I begin to suspect that he is not the right person to marry somebody named Anna Caroline in Lunenburg County and have a child baptised at DRL.
Next, although at first blush you would think that Caspar HUBLEY's birth is recorded at Northwest Baptist, that's not the way the Northwest Baptist register works. It has chronological records of membership, marriages and burials, but the section on births is by family. Each family entry reads “Children born unto and and it may also give their residence. Then it lists children in order of birth; but that listing was done long after the fact of their birth (sometimes the marriage entries were long after the fact as well). So when you see the family of John Jacob 1794, Caspar's birth appears; but it may well have been entered after he had already died, and in no way tells us anything about whether or not he was baptised as an infant in some other church.
So the bottom line is that I suspect Joshua and Casper are the same person. [Bob H]
