Notes - This John BLACKBURN is a puzzle. He is shown in the 1871 Census of Terence Bay in the family of Samuel F. and Mary (McInnes) BLACKBURN, but it is not clear whether he is a son or grandson, as they are elderly at the time. It seems more likely that he was a grandson, but if so, then the problem becomes--who were his parents. The most likely candidate is Ann Margaret who, at age 36 when John in near grown, marries a 54-year old man. There is no known evidence to support his being the illegitimate son of Ann Margeret, but since it seems (at least to me) to be the most credible of the available explanations, he has been so placed here.
