Notes - Her daughter Laura's marriage record and obit name her as Annie CRESS, as does Annie's marker inscription. However, Annie's marriage record, her daughter Hazel's birth record, and the 1901 Census name her as Annie BERRIGAN, and there is no evidence that she was either adopted or had any marriage other than that to Arthur PUBLICOVER. And, to further add to the confusion, the marriage record for her son Karl (who uses BERRIGAN as his surname at marriage) names her Annie RAWDING!
Family legend (which, in this case is probably correct) has it that Annie CRESS was the adopted daughter of Capt. John BERRIGAN of LaHave, which would explain all of the above except the one instance of the RAWDING surname.
