| What is documented is that they were married in Dec 1878 at MIddleton. The actual date of marriage shown here is the date of his marriage bond. | Family: Charles MORGAN / Elizabeth Ann WARNER (F141033)

| What is known for certain is that a William James SLAUNWHITE married a Margaret Mary Slaunwhite in 1943. The Parish Register of Brunswick UCC gives his age as 44, his parents as James SLAUNWHITE and Isabel MARTIN, and his place of birth as Terence Bay. However, in the 1901 Census of Terence Bay there are two sons listed--John (baptised as John William) and Wilfred (who gives his name as Wilfred Michael on his C.E.F. enlistment papers). John and Wilfred are b. 1897 and 1898, respectively, while (if the Brunswick Parish Register date is taken at face value) William James is b. 1898 or 1899. Although William James could be an otherwise unknown son born after 1901, Nova Scotians are famous for interchanging the order of given names, and John is often seen for James and vice versa. Finally, when Nova Scotians lie about there age at marriage (which they often do), they usually make themselves younger, not older. So, it seems most likely that William James and John William are the same person. [Bob H] | SLAUENWHITE, John William (I16146)

| What is known for certain is that the wife of Alexander HUBLEY 1809 is named Mary MEISNER, that she is d/o Henry and Christiana MEISNER, and that Henry is the s/o John MEISNER. By process of elimination, Henry is Johann Heinrich MEISNER 1783, and his wife is Christiana WEAGLE. Henry and Christiana are know to have had (at least) eight children, but none of them are known to have been named Mary. It is certainly possible, if not probable, that she is one of the other daughters. However, since there is no known record in which her age or DOB appear, there is little to go on and we can only guess at the truth. If I were forced to guess, it would be that she is either daughter Elizabeth or, more likely, daughter Christina who was called Mary to distinguish her from her mother. But this is pure speculation and so she is carried here as a separate individual. | MEISNER, Mary (I67380)

| What is known for certain is this. First, a John James HARNISH marries a Sarah BOUTILIER (which one is an open question). Second, this Susannah BOUTILIER dies in May 1845. Third, in Aug 1846, a James HARNISH, widower, marries a Susan WEINACHT, widow. Fourth, there is no further record of this couple. Fifth, in 1847, James Henry HARNISH and a Susannah FREDERICKS (aka Susannah ADAMS), begin to have children; the first child is baptized SPFV, but no wedding for the couple at SPFV (or anywhere else has ever been found. Now either John James and James Henry are two different people or they are the same person and, in 1846, Susannah FREDERICKS is the Widow WEINACHT. I think the latter is the case for the following reasons. First, John James, husband of Sarah BOUTILIER and Susan WEINACHT is a “contrived” person who exists only beCAUSe we have no other way to explain who their husband is, if he isn't James Henry. But what good reason says he isn't James Henry? Occam's Razor says that John James shouldn't exist. Second, Susannah FREDERICK's first child by James Henry (that we know of) is Eliza Jane, b. 14 Mar 1847 [SPFV]. Given the frequent number of “premature” births in that time frame, this is just about a perfect fit. Third, as found in Joe Whitby's abstracts of the SPFV register, one of the SPFV parish register entries names James Henry as John James. Fourth, when daughter Maria Sophia HARNISH marries John David BOUTILIER, she gives her father's names as James H. Fifth, as also found in Joe Whitby's abstracts of the SPFV register, Susannah FREDRICKS' name changes from Sarah to Susan in 1847. But if John James and James Henry are the same person, and Susan ADAMS/FREDERICKS and Susan WEINACHT are the same person, this would neatly explain that change. | FREDERICKS, Susannah (I28232)

| What is known is that he is buried with Thomas MORASH, his wife Cora , and their son James Arthur. There is no know death record but, from his age, he cannot be the s/o Thomas and Cora. He also cannot be the s/o James' brother Charles, and the only sign of sister Doris MORASH's existence is a line in James' obit saying that she predeceased him. So it would appear that C. Allen MORASH is the s/o James Arthur MORASH. | MORASH, C. Allen (I130576)

| What is known is that: a. A George WENSEL m. an Elizabeth HUBLEY of Margaret's Bay at Charleston, Queens in 1858 (see marriage notes) b. In the 1901 and 1881 Census of Jordan River, Shelburne, the DOB of the George WENTZEL, h/o Elizabeth, matches exactly the DOB for a George WENTZEL who is baptised at Trinity Anglican, Liverpool. This Queens County connection would seem to indicate it is the same George WENTZEL, thus establishing (from the Census) Elizabeth's DOB as being somewhere around 1840 (1881 Census) to 1843 (1901 Census). Of the two Dates of Birth for Elizabeth, the 1840 seems much more reasonable since, if she were born in 1843, she would be 15 at marriage, which is a bit too young for someone who is far from home. What is not known are the parents of this Elizabeth. However, if we look at all of the SMB families she could belong to, there are only a few where she fits. One that jumps right out is that of James and Nellie (BOUTILIER) HUBLEY. Now, for reasons discussed in his notes, I have a John HUBLEY b. 1837, d. 05 Dec 1874 placed in this family; what seems important about that is that he dies at Charleston, Queens and that he is married, although to whom we know not. Why it seems important is that Elizabeth HUBLEY is married at Charleston, Queens and most girls of that era were married either in a church, their parents home, or if a parent was not available, the home of a relative. Nellie (BOUTILIER) HUBLEY d. 1841 at SMB, and so Elizabeth's 1840 DOB in the 1881 Census fits, as does a scenario of Nellie's children scattering when her widower remarries. So, although the evidence is more than somewhat tenuous, for lack of any better evidence I suspect this Elizabeth HUBLEY is the d/o James and Nellie. Thus she is placed with this family. 7507 | What is known of Elizabeth Margaret HARNISH is that she marries a John MANSFIELD on 31 Dec 1823 and later, after being widowed, marries John WAMBOLDT. She cannot be a child of Caspar or Edward HARNISH, and since she marries in 1823, she could possibly be born as late as 1809, but it is more likely that she is b. in 1807 or before. The 1871 Census of Brookfield, Queens [family # 94], has her age as 60 and that of her husband, John WAMBOLDT as 57; this reinforces the notion that she was older than he, but is not credible as a source for her DOB. If she were the child of John Jacob, it would be a tight fit and it would force Elizabeth C. [Eliza] into the family of John George, where she would also be a tight fit. But if Eliza belongs to John Jacob, then Elizabeth Margaret fits into John George's family in a period where we know there must have been two unrecorded births, of which she would be one. But either way, Elizabeth Margaret is the daughter of a SLAUENWHITE mother. So, given the birth order evidence, until some more positive identification can be made she is placed with John George and Polly. [Bob H] Also see notes for Elizabeth C. [Eliza] HARNISH, d/o John Jacob and Maria Magdalena HARNISH. | HARNISH, Elizabeth Margaret (I49292)

| What is known of him comes from his marriage bond and from the following notice that appeared in the 27 Nov 1862 edition of the Halifax Morning Chronicle, (p.3, col. 1--cited by Brenda Maruca): "Deaths: Lost overboard, on the 29th Oct., from schr. Foam, Captain Mc Coy, Archibald D.Moser, a native of the Bay of Islands, NS, 25 years of age, leaving a wife and one child". So the question is--who are his parents? In looking at the 1838 Census of Bay of Islands, the most likely family seems to be that of Philip L. and Mary Ann (HOYE) MOSER, who have two sons, both under age 6, and no daughters. Further, the co-signer of Archibald's marriage bond is a CURRY, which is the maiden name of his paternal grandmother. So although this evidence is flimsy at best, since he must be placed somewhere, he is placed for now with Philip L. and Mary Ann. | MOSHER, Archibald (I158877)
| What makes me believe that it is this John Harnish who is bur. 08 Aug 1861 is: a. His age at death (50 years) b. His mother is Mrs. Alcorn (See notes for Maria Elizabetha [Polly] SLAUENWHITE) c. His wife, Catherine Brigley appears to be a widow in 1871. [Bob H] | HARNISH, John Edward (I46539)
| What seems to be her husband and one child (William) appear in the 1881 Census but, assuming it's the correct family, she does not. | FADER, Mary (I10668)
| When Amelia travels to NS in 1934, 1936, and 1939, she is unaccompanied. Her husband is last seen in the 1928 City Directory of Medford, MA. | Family: John E. EDWARDS / Amelia Tryphena OICKLE (F24953)
| When Andrew Fader dies in Philiadelphia in 1924, he reportedly leaves a widow and a young son. This Anna is the only FADER living in Philadelphia in 1930 who is a widow and who has a young son whose father was born in Canada. | (--?--), Anna M. (I127610)
| When Augustus Hardy dies, he leaves a widow and four children. As the other four children lived to adulthood, Chamberlain HARDY must have died before May 1911. | HARDY, Chamberlain (I127605)
| When Benjamin TYLER dies in 1875, she returns to NS where, in the 1901 Census, she is seen residing with niece Jessie (BENT) WOODBURY. She cannot be found in the 1911 Census. | KNIFFIN, Freelove (I35645)
| When Charles T. DODGE 1918 dies, his name is recorded as Charles T. DODGE, Sr., implying that there is a Charles T. DODGE, Jr. | DODGE, Charles T. (I105825)
| When Ebenezer ROBERTSON m. Eliza CHURCH in 1868, he gives his residence as Minnestoa. Subsequently, in the Canadian Census and on her death record, she appears as a widow. But in 1900, Ebenezer ROBERTSON appears back in Minnesota with a wife named Belinda to whom he has been married for 29 years. There is an 1869 NS divorce in which the parties are named ROBERTSON, but their given names are not listed. Also, in the 1901 Census, a woman who seems to be Eliza appears using her maiden name, CHURCH. So whether she is a "geographic" widow or divorced, it would appear that her marriage ended quickly. [Bob H] | Family: Ebenezer ROBERTSON / Eliza Jane CHURCH (F46868)
| When George marries Charles SETTELE, she states that it is her first marriage, which is not true. | Family: Charles N. SETTELE / Georgia ONTHANK (F89337)
| When George WELLS dies in 1930, his death record states that his is widowed. But it is clear that his wife doesn't die until 1950! Further, when Bertha dies, the informant is her son-in-law; but George and Bertha are childless in every census from 1891 onward. So unless Bertha had a daughter before marrying George, something is wrong here. | WELLS, George Jr. (I41655)
| When he is baptised in 17 Apr 1912, his parents are listed as James and Bessie MOORE; however, since they were married in 1907, it would appear that he is their illegitimate son. | MOORE, John Reginald (I195665)
| When he married Lois WENTZELL in 1937, he states that he is a widower. However, his widowhood appears to have been of the geographic variety as his first wife, Annie Bell CUNNINGHAM emigrates to MA in 1928. | JAYNE, Joseph Albert (I10793)
| When he marries Annie RAFUSE in 1904 in MA, the record states that it is his first marriage. But this is contradicted by the 1910 Census, which states that he has been married twice. | DANIELS, Charles Maynard (I35594)
| When he marries Lillian MacKAY, he states that he is a bachelor (rather than a widower). So, presumably, he and Irene WEBBER are divorced. | CORKUM, Harold Victor (I186359)
| When he marries Mary Esther HEISLER in 1921 at Halifax, he is concurrently living with his wife Clara and their two children at Yarmouth! | LANGTHORNE, Albert Morton (I110649)
| When he registered for the US WWI draft, he was living in Bristol County, MA. | BOUTILIER, James Ainsley (I46161)
| When he registers for the US WWI draft on 5 Jun 1917, he is a bachelor living in New York City. His daughter Edith is born 24 Mar 1918, which would indicate that he was married in 1917 in NYC. | Family: Douglas James CONRAD / Christina FRASER (F57612)
| When he registers for the US WWI Draft, he is Identified by his DOB and is living in Bryn Mwr, PA with a wife and three children. There is also a Reginald H. LOWE who appears in the 1920 Census of Boston, MA. He is the right age but reports that he is single. | LOWE, Reginald Heber (I92324)
| When he registers for the US WWI Draft, he is single and a mariner whose permanent address is Bridgewater, NS but whose employer's address is Broadway, NYC. He is last seen in the 1921 Census of Bridgewater, NS. | TAYLOR, Wilbert Stewart (I260108)
| When he registers for the US WWII draft in 1942, he appears to be single. | CORKUM, Lindsay Arthur (I214420)
| When he registers for the WWI draft on 5 Jun 1917, he states that he is single, unemployed, and physically unfit for service. | NOLAN, Charles Francis (I7208)
| When her daughter Lottie was born, Sarah was baptised along with her and changed her own name to Louisa Anne. She also appears in two Censuses as Sarah. [Source: Gwen Christie] Her death record names her Sarah Isabell and gives her age as 58. [Bob H] | HURSHMAN, Louisa Ann (I8808)
| When her husband dies in 1939, he is a widower. She does not appear in the 1911 Census and son Harold is living with a cousin in that census. | CROOKS, Edith Elizabeth (I128671)
| When her mother died in childbirth, she was adopted and raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Joseph and Mary Emily (Boutilier) BREMNER. [Sandy Wooden]. | BOUTILIER, Sadie Etta [Emily] (I44828)
| When her mother died, Alberta was taken by Beatrice Matthews, and since she had a daughter Alberta, Lilly's girl was named Mary and raised as Matthews. Mary had two daughters Gloria and Sherrie. [Source: Martha Farrar] | ARLIN, Mary Alberta (I15076)
| When his wife Grace dies in 1932, she states that she is married, and when he marries Sadie SIMMONS in NH in 1926, he states that it is his first marriage. This may be another case of "geographic widowhood". | STOCKMAN, John (I322105)
| When Hope BEST m. Alfred RICHARDSON, she is named Hope MALCOLM and is a widow. | MALCOLM, Andrew (I87419)
| When Howard CHASE signs up for WWI Service, he is a widower; and since he dies overseas, he almost surely didn't remarry. So that would seem to rule out Ella EDGETT as a second wife, and she can't be a first wife, since he was a bachelor when he marries Lilia HAZLETT in 1901. So he must have been married to Lilia when Albert is born. But note first, that when brother Robert's birth is registered, his mother, Lilia, is named; and that second, when Albert's birth is registered (which was done well after the fact since Howard is noted as deceased), the place where the mother should be listed is lined through. So one of two things would seem to be true: a. Albert was mistaken as to his mother's name. This doesn't seem likely since whoever registered Robert knew Lilia's name; or b. Albert was the result of a bit of extra-marital hanky-panky by Howard. There is NB woman of the right vintage named Ella EDGETT, and is was her married name. Also, there is a family legend that Albert was the result of an affair. Thus choice b. would appear to correct. | CHASE, Albert Edward (I163197)
| When last seen (in 1930), she is single and living with her brother Edward in CA. | ARMSTRONG, Harriet E. (I237219)
| When last seen (in the 1940 Census), they were living in Goffstown, NH. | Family: William E. SILVER / Laura M. KAULBACK (F82626)

| When last seen in 1966, she remains single | FOLSOM, Helen M. (I254520)
| When Leander SLAUENWHITE deserted her in the mid-1890's, he stated that he was going to the US and not coming back. So, she went to live with Frederick Ebenezer CONRAD, who lived next door, and in 1900, after declaring herself to be a widow, she married him. Shortly afterwards, Leander reappeared; but seeing that she had remarried, he went back to Maine. | WAMBOLDT, Mary Isabella (I5410)
| When Nellie died Faith was 2 years old and Elmer 2 weeks old. They were taken to Farmington and Grandma Heisler raised them. | RAFUSE, Nellie Melinda (I15049)
| When Nellie dies, we know that she leaves five children; however, there is no known record of their names. | BOUTILIER, Eleanor (I2771)
| When Rita Matilda fell ill, her children were raised by different parents. Elizabeth, Barbara, and Sharon were raised by Thomas Edward and Annie Nora (Pettipas) SLAUNWHITE; Rose and Gerald were raised by Gladys [Martin] CUVELIER. [Sherri Crowe] | SLAUENWHITE, Rita Matilda (I16518)
| When Ruth marries in Jun 1956, she gives her age as 19, which would place her birth in 1937, 3 years before her parents marriage. So either Ronald RISSER is not her father, her birth was "premature", or she is lying about her age. I suspect that that last choice may be the correct one. | RISSER, Ruth Dale (I171632)
| When Saie McLaughlin m. Jessen WALETRS in 1927, she claimed she was a widow, which she was not. She was subsequently convicted of bigamy. | Family: Jessen Clifford WALTERS / Sadie Mae MCLAUGHLIN (F92517)
| When she and her husband cross the US border from Winnipeg, MB in 1909, Ada is listed as Ada ROBSON, wife of James Alfred ROBSON, and they give their residence as Windthorst, SK. We know that this is Ada (TRUEMAN) COVEY beCAUSe her maiden name appears in her children's records, beCAUS ofe we know that Elias Rupert COVEY built a home in Windthorst, SK in 1904, and beCAUSe she appears to name her first child by James Alfred ROBSON after her mother, Rachel LEVY. In 1910, Ada states that she has been married only once, and in 1916, Elias COVEY states that he is widowed. However, since Elias is living in Alberta in 1916 and we do not know when he moved there or who deserted whom, it may be a case of "geographic widowhood". | Family: James Alfred ROBSON / Ada Matilda TRUEMAN (F63894)
| When she is (conditionally) baptised at St. Patrick's, Halifax on 18 Sep 1920, she gives her DOB as 06 Jan 1894. [Bob H] | BOUTILIER, Georgina (I65109)
| When she married, she used her mother's maiden name (ALLEN). This may have been to confuse the local clergyman, since she married her first cousin (once removed), or it may be that she was the result of a "youthful indiscretion" by her mother. | ALLEN, Mary Ann (I5871)
| When she marries Isaac JOLLIMORE, her parents are listed as his parents. | FREDERICKS, Mary Elizabeth (I36942)
| When she marries John Charles SPIDLE in 1996, her surname is MAILMAN. This could be her maiden name or she could have been previously married to a MAILMAN, most likely the latter. | MAILMAN, Sherri Ann (I201625)
